Working on Campus - Toyia Montgomery

Toyia Montgomery is a junior at Michigan State University and previously worked on campus but departed from her position.

Montgomery was working in Brody neighborhood as a Service Center Representative because she wanted to have another job to make more money.

In an interview Montgomery explained that it was nice to see people and be on campus since she lives off campus. "Disadvantages were the pay of course, it was very low... umm and the amount of work you had to do for the pay," Montgomery said.

Montgomery explained she would recommend the position to underclassmen but as upperclassmen it would be better to search for better paying jobs. Jobs on campus and off campus can be found on MSU's new Handshake website that is used for a career services network online.

Working On Campus - Domonique Jackson

Domonique Jackson is a freshmen at Michigan State University and wanted to find employment on campus.

Jackson explains that she wants to work on campus because she needs extra money in her pocket for everyday things such as food, things for school, and other necessities.

Jackson stated in an interview that she did not want to work off of campus because she doesn't have her own personal transportation, "... I would rather work on campus because it would be easier to get there with the CATA station."

Jackson did not have a hard time in her search for employment and was recently hired by Michigan State football as a Spartan Aide to work with recruiting for the team. Jackson explained it was easy getting the job since she knew people that already worked there.

Ryan Thomas is a 4th year student at Michigan State University and expresses what she did in order to be able to graduate in four years.

Thomas has stuck to a strict plan since her freshmen year for the number of credits she needs to take every semester in order to graduate within four years.

Thomas does agree that it is not normal to graduate in four years. “You have to know what you are doing in that four years and actually like be set,” Thomas said in an interview.

While taking a ton of credits Thomas has managed being on the Michigan State Dance Team for the past four years as well as being captain. Thomas has danced her whole life so doesn’t find dance very hard to manage but expresses that she is a student before anything.

Gillian Bradley, 5th Year Senior

Gillian Bradley is a 5th year senior at Michigan State University and expresses how normal graduating in five years is for a lot of students.

Bradley has changed her major over 4 times which was one of the main reasons for adding the extra year to her undergraduate college experience.

There are some pros “…you take your time, you get to enjoy college life cause this is an experience in itself… umm you have more opportunities to get more experience like more jobs, more internships,” Bradley said during an interview.

As a full time student Bradley also runs her own business called Harper Ray Accessories. Bradley found it harder to manage school, two jobs, and her business after freshmen year. Now she manages everything successfully without being overwhelmed.
